Next, what is an Affiliate, or, what are Affiliate Marketing programs?

An affiliate is basically a paid representative or transactional partner who is compensated for their influence in buying decisions. Affiliate Marketing programs are in short basically programs third party companies that are seeking representative partnerships that will endorse their products, or at the very least provide a platform on which the products are advertised. They are business relationships, a form of internet marketing for online businesses. Both partners are running businesses, and no matter the product or service, there will be 1) overhead of some sort, and 2) people will receive compensation for value exchange.

Your local drug store is a type of affiliate, your department store is a type of affiliate, the same for your clothing store, health store, or gym. If you make a profit off of wood carvings or the hair-bows someone else made, you are in effect, an affiliate – you are a paid representative. To run a business and thrive, profit will be an undeniable component. Without it, the business will not last long. One of the ways that website owners have learned to thrive is in internet marketing for online businesses.

In the case of BestOnBiz and the business end of website ownership, there is a professional level website to be paid for and run, there is product research and development, products bought, there's the time to put together the training and / or educational materials, gathering graphics and materials, writing code snippets, reading from multiple sources to get the best... It’s a viable business with it’s own overhead. From there we engage in value exchanges that include a win-win-win situation for all parties involved – that includes either a general consumer, or another business – either one could be you.

As with any other business, in online business there will be monetary exchange, it’s inherent.

Quick side trip - What you need to be aware of - the “heads up.”

For some reason there are some that have taken up arms that the online business format should be different, that there is something wrong with the affiliate equation, this leaves me wondering….

There are many out there who will get their attention through what is called “fear marketing” ie; if you do this your hair will fall out and your teeth will turn green –OR, in this case - If you listen to this person because they received some type of professional / value return in exchange for their (many times hard-earned) business recommendation, it must be shady.

If this were really true then there should be a call to cancel 99.9% of all business transactions immediately.

This fear marketing approach is more of a “looking over the shoulder” paradigm and interwoven with fear and avoidance. Can people take advantage of affiliate programs? Sure. Tell me an industry that someone hasn't been taken advantage of!

The focus for a more effective approach; eyes forward, in the building mode and what you can do either in internet marketing for online businesses, or as an online consumer.

Rather than getting derailed by implications of something sinister that is for the most part non-existent within any quality business– let’s peel back the layers to the bare-bones issues and where your focus is the most effective for your business decisions, or, again, as an online consumer. Trust, competence, motivation – these are factors that are better determiners for decision-making and how their influence for buys should affect you – or – if we may suggest, what you should be consciously developing within your online business. Let’s dig.

What do you know about the person you are listening to or reading about? What are their values and how do they align with yours? Obviously you’re not going to do this for everything, but if the “buy” is that significant in your life, or there will be strong, ongoing buying decisions, take a bit to check them out. Are they more focused on the bashing of others or the investment of you?

How are they taking the time out to show you the WHAT, HOW, and WHY their products are better? Your best online business owners, or as the best buying influencers are called when they are highly competent in their niche and able to deliver the best educational training to the online masses are known - “infoprenuers,” can be tremendous assets in your personal and / or professional life.

For example, I can choose lots of different programs to throw up on my site for data storage, but my dedicated and collective data research shows that some of those do not have encryption - even some that are rated well amongst the typical ratings companies or organizations that brag on no bias! In the case of the encrypted data storage and the lack of it, what can that mean to you as either the business owner or the consumer? They are typically less secure meaning you are at increased risk for identity tampering, profit loss, or stolen ideas. This why you want a worthy affiliate or “infoprenuer”. They can function like that "silent partner" on your team committed to being constantly engaged within a specified industry so you can just go run your business and realize that great American dream.

A large element of BestOnBiz’s mission is to deliver business savvy tools, knowledge bases and services worthy of use to both the small and mid-size business owner. If I'm walking the walk besides talking the talk for business, every bit of what I do should have an equitable value exchange, including internet marketing for online businesses.

As it turns out, I do pursue IN ACTION every day, ways that I can realize this value exchange to many times the point of over-delivery. As people come to be exposed to this business model, my “integrity quotient” is elevated and that’s where business really commences. Integrity is a foundational component for retention in any long- term business, including mine. SIDE NOTE; Many business owners will include Google AdSense in their overall compensation campaign. Since Google AdSense is so prevalent on the internet and considered highly recognizeable by the online user tends to fall under some different guidelines - ie; people recognize them for ads.

For the smarter infoprenuer, or online business builder, they will use the most appropriate keywords possible to make even the Adwords a viable resource to the online user, it's simply better internet marketing for online businesses. The challenge, however, is that even when the infoprenuer does everything right, the remainging part of the equation is far outside any control the infoprenuer has in regards to appropriate, accurate, or beneficial connection on the other end of Adwords usage.

While Google constantly works on refining the process for better quality, there are those that would occasionally take advantage, or have a different value system or standard than the infoprenuer. The good news is that groups like SBI affiliates (of which we are a member) are given a more favored position with Google because of the overall track record of integrity and accountability. Additionally, Google has begun implementing a variety of processes that will help to reinforce a better quality online experience.

Back on evaluating for smart partnerships...

Most people will pick up fairly quickly the tone and intent of a message including the one you are reading. Can you "hear" the intent of an open dialogue? As you are picking the sites you want to trust, listen to their message... your instincts will for the most part take care of the issue even before you know it. It IS good to question the motivations, to choose your buying coaches wisely.

If they (the infoprenuers) are making a recommendation about products or services, what are their quality “filters”? What are they screening for in the products and services they are promoting? If you understand what brings them to their decisions of endorsement, you can make a great quality decision as to the probability of whether it will be good for you too. Read about them long enough, or know them well enough and you can almost make a checklist for what they’ll recommend. We spell ours out in our “Small biz Macro Filter.”

Remember, in 99% of the cases, a healthy, growing, thriving online business isn't going to make it long term off of some isolated transactions. Real business growth is going to mean retention or people coming back... and that requires satisfaction and trust, not easy to get online. Will there be “blink of an eye” fleeting trends where someone gets rich overnight? Sure – about the same probability as those who win at the grand lottery. And the same percentage will probably lose it soon after.

In addition to the self-cleaning element of online business with the people themselves, there is an application process to become an affiliate within a particular program. For your better companies, and in internet marketing for online businesses, if these affiliate partners get misrepresented, then the application or commissions are going to be terminated. These companies want to grow and thrive too.

If it’s a big buying decision, is the person you’re listening to competent in that area? Just like in any other arena of life, in internet marketing for online businesses, or the online consumer in general - they may be a terrific person overall, but if they are not truly competent in that specific area, there can be a BIG mis-step. I am seeing on TV right now where a woman that I greatly admire is endorsing something she obviously doesn’t understand, she knows so little of the subject that I don’t believe she understands the damage she’s contributing to. I still believe in her, and for what she does, but if I ever get a chance to have a conversation…..

If the products or services being offered are truly of value, what is expounded about these values? If their content has more to do with mud-slinging versus the value education of their products, are you really gaining much ground? It’s kind of like trying to live life by everything not to do rather than focusing on what WILL work for you. It’s been my life experience that when you have something truly of value, you can put your focus there – this includes affiliate marketing or internet marketing for online businesses.

If you are a business owner, or considering Affiliate Marketing programs yourself, realize that there is a place for whistle blowers – granted, but if you’re offering something of value, stick to the main point of the main point. People will catch on. True value, given time and exposure WILL rise through the ranks, no mud-slinging necessary. Granted, some people like "baiting," others like the "drama of it all", but most want solid, quality information.

I believe that for both the online business builders and the online consumer out there, it’s more about the integrity of the process, the results, and the maturity to comprehend the well earned business dynamic and value exchange. If you understand the roles of affiliate marketing and in internet marketing for online businesses, then with this paradigm you arrive on purpose through what works strategically – and with peace and satisfaction for your personal return.
